Equanimity

Equanimity

Picture a butterfly with majestic wings, fluttering gracefully on the breeze currents.

It is so delicate and yet it can master the wind. Its strength lies in its fragile surrender to that which it is: simply a butterfly, in all of its glory.

Vulnerable to the elements, celebrating each flower it softly lands on. Its body holds both wings as one. Like one whole breath unfolding in perfect synch.

When it finds itself transformed after its alchemical pause in the cocoon it has weaved to evolve into the more that it is, it does not ask “how do I fly?”… It just knows. It has no fear of going back to being a caterpillar, in the same way it had no fear of surrendering to the unknown inevitability of what it needed to allow itself to become. In its now moment there is nothing else to be but a glorious butterfly.

It does not fear leaving the cocoon either. Its only guiding force is life’s passionate invitation “Come and play with me. I am yours and you are mine, let’s dance together my love.”

Oh yes. It too faces challenges each day but it has no need to be equipped with a way of fighting against them. It takes each moment as it comes, completely engrossed in the experience of just being a butterfly playing a silent tune with its precious wings.

After all it has received this gift of exquisite beauty which allows it to glide through the air, free like an angel of gentleness. What else could there be but explore this gift, playing with each discovery as if it were the ultimate joy?

If you can see one wing as the Light and the other as the Dark, do you realize they are both part of the same body and neither one is more or less relevant to the freedom of the butterfly’s flight?

If it were to deny one of its wings, it would be incapable of using this grand gift it has received in the metamorphic cocoon of transfiguration.

Its body is the balancing point that delicately holds the wings together, without tipping towards either side, in a harmonious whole that is much more than the sum of its parts.

In our journey though the vastness of experience, it is hard to let go of being a caterpillar, but once the transfiguration is under way, there is no way to stop it.

When it has finally been allowed, there is a cocoon to be left, in complete Trust of this new now moment, for there would be no purpose in staying in a cocoon that has broken its walls to allow space for the wings to unfold.

it is, however, easy to forget that we are no longer caterpillars once we have transformed into butterflies, but the illusion is the forgetfulness itself. The attachment to something that is no longer there and that cannot be gone back to.

And of course the expectations of what we would look like after going through the metamorphosis within the cocoon of transfiguration from just Human to Divine Human. Ah but there is no way we could know. No stretch of the imagination could have pictured going from a crawling creature to one that can fly, blending Dark and Light into a perfect new balance.

Once you find you have wings, allow them to take you on the breezes of your wholeness, for there is nothing else to do, nowhere else to be. Just here. Just now. In full surrender to the precious oneness of each divinely human Breath.
